We've covered four anemia test. Now, let's look at the complete anemia chart:

Anemia family – tells you if you have enough healthy red blood cells to feel your best
Name of test What it measures Target range

Hemoglobin (Hgb/Hb)

Amount of oxygen-carrying protein in red blood cells

  • 14 to 18 g/dL for healthy men
  • 12 to 16 g/dL for healthy women
  • 10 to 12 g/dL for men and women on dialysis

Hematocrit (Hct)

Percent of blood that is made up of red blood cells

  • 40 to 50% for healthy men
  • 36 to 44% for healthy women
  • 33 to 36% for men and women on dialysis

Ferritin

Amount of iron stored in the body

  • Between 100 and 500 ng/mL

Transferrin saturation (TSAT)

Amount of iron available to form blood cells

  • Between 20 and 50%
