**Anemia family** – tells you if you have enough healthy red blood cells to feel your best
Name of test	What it measures	Target range
Hemoglobin (Hgb/Hb)	Amount of oxygen-carrying protein in red blood cells	14 to 18 g/dL for healthy men 12 to 16 g/dL for healthy women 10 to 12 g/dL for men and women on dialysis
Hematocrit (Hct)	Percent of blood that is made up of red blood cells	40 to 50% for healthy men 36 to 44% for healthy women 33 to 36% for men and women on dialysis
Ferritin	Amount of iron stored in the body	Between 100 and 500 ng/mL
Transferrin saturation (TSAT)	Amount of iron available to form blood cells	Between 20 and 50%
