What web browser should I use?

Because this site was coded to meet or exceed requirements for Web standards compliance, it is best viewed using a standards-compliant browser. Any of these browsers listed below will work.

How do I view the module PDFs?

Download and install Adobe Reader: it's free software that lets you view, print, search, and share Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF) files. Please make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Reader for your operating system.

  • Verify that you have the latest version of Adobe Reader for your computer.
  • Windows users should right-click on links to PDFs. From the resulting pop-up menu, choose "Save Target As", and save the file to your computer.
  • Mac OS X users should hold down the option key while clicking on the links to the PDFs. This will download the file directly to your computer.
  • Finally, open the file in Adobe Reader.

How do I make the text larger?

Internet Explorer 7 or 8 (Windows)

  1. On the toolbar in Internet Explorer, choose the Page button, and then choose Text Size.
  2. Select the text size that you want.

Internet Explorer 6 (Windows)

  1. On the toolbar in Internet Explorer 6, choose the View menu, and then choose Text Size.
  2. Select the text size that you want.

Safari (Mac OS X) or Firefox (Windows or Mac OS X)

  1. Use command-plus (increase font size) or command-minus (decrease font size).
  2. Repeat until text is desired size.

Why can't I view the rollovers or the animations?

Download and install Adobe Flash Player: it's free software that lets you view all of the animations and some of the rollovers in Kidney School. Please make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player for your operating system.

Why won't some parts of Kidney School work for me?

Some pages on our site will not function properly if your browser does not support JavaScript or have it enabled. All of our forms require JavaScript to be enabled. In order to use the Kidney School website, your web browser must be set to allow JavaScript and cookies.

JavaScript enables websites to provide rich, dynamic content and more-powerful features. JavaScript is very secure, and most browsers support it. It is generally enabled by default.

Cookies are small bits of data that are stored on your computer when you browse our site. They allow the site to store information while you use Kidney School. No one else can read your cookies, and we do not store any personal data in them.

To enable JavaScript in Internet Explorer 6, 7, or 8 (Windows):

  1. From the Tools menu, select "Internet Options".
  2. Select the Security tab.
  3. Pick the "Internet zone" icon.
  4. Push the "Custom Level..." button.
  5. Scroll down the Settings list to the Scripting item. (You may need to double-click on icons to expand lists.)
  6. Under the "Active scripting" item, choose the Enable radio button.
  7. Push OK and Yes to confirm and close the Security Settings dialog box, then OK again to close the Internet Options dialog box.
  8. Refresh the current page.

To enable JavaScript in Safari (Mac OS X):

  1. From the Safari menu, select "Preferences".
  2. Click the "Security" tab.
  3. Within the "Web Content" section, check "Enable JavaScript".
  4. Close the Preferences dialog box and reload the current page.

  1. From the Firefox menu, select "Preferences".
  2. Click the "Content" tab.
